Jerome baited the waters with a Jai-Alia Xistera looking scoop of Maize.
The first spot looked perfect. A railroad trestle. I’m not sure if I’m embarrassed or frustrated, I think both. First and foremost, I’m not fishing with the proper gear (not that it’s an excuse for not catching Carp). I’m still learning habitats, behaviors, baits, methods, etc.. from Jerome but something needs to change. I (attempted) to fish 12# mono on a 6’6” medium rod. On the first run of the morning my line snapped after setting in. Yes, snapped, I should never had set in, there was no need. I need to remember that these fish essentially hook themselves. Was it a structure or my knot? Do I go against my beliefs and run braided line? It’s driving me nuts. The more I see pictures of large Carp, the more I want them. Should I just convert one of my salt rods to a carp rod and run braid? I don’t know.
After a few hours we moved down river and fished another spot. This time, I had another run and I successfully managed to loose the fish. My line slacked up and the hook came out. A mistake that shouldn’t have happened. By the way, I should mention we baited/chummed chocolate flavored corn. Yes, chocolate. See pic.
No fish for either of us. -One more thing. At the trestle, there was a power line stretched overhead (not shown) with hooks, lines, and bobbers attached to it. I laughed and literally said, “I can’t believe people actually get their gear stuck up there”. Well, I managed to cast over the power line. I saved my gear, Jerome snapped a picture.
