I stopped by the DTS drainage pond parking lot to let the kids ride their bikes and I couldn't help but notice the large Bass lurking just below the surface. They were nipping at the small schoolie Sunfish in the sun. The water was warming up and the fish seemed to be a little more active. After showing my kids the fish, I packed them back in the car, drove home and grabbed my rod and returned. My first cast was with a 3” white and green Zarra Spook. The splash alone was enough to send a Largemouth over to attack it. He was a long skinny fish. Maybe 1.5lb? A nice fish. I continued around the small pond and took at least 30 more casts without a bite. Still using my small Trout rod with 6# test line. Haven’t taken out the Bass rods yet. Also, my youngest son was pointing at something saying “dada-dada”. I walked over and was shocked to see the size of the Snapping Turtle digging in the mud. It was huge. Easily 35lbs. It also had a large 5”x15” strip of it’s shell missing. Something (probably a kid) or an animal when it was smaller had attacked it. The shell, what was left of it, saved it’s life at one time. You might not be able to see it that well, I snapped a pic with my phone.
