Mill Pond - Maynard

I took Jr. to the Mill Pond on Saturday to kill 20 minutes. We dug up 7 or 8 worms and headed down for a few casts. Right away the Sunfish were hitting. He pulled in 3 small Sunfish. He loves it. I didn't catch anything using a dressed Mepps #1 silver. No hits.
We did notice one oddity, just as we were ready to head out I noticed a small turtle right in front of us. I ran to the car to get my net. I laid down on my stomach right on the bank, extended my arm out and lowered in the net. As soon as I attempted to scoop the turtle he back peddled away. The strange thing is, I have no idea what type of turtle it was. It was a little bigger than a softball and had a long skinny protruding neck with a pointy head and long legs. It didn't look like any of the "regular" turtles we see. (painted, snapping, sun, etc...)
